Lodgement protocols
Do not lodge the SMSF Annual Report before receiving the Audit Report
As they do each October, the Australian Taxation Office has contacted SMSF auditors, asking them to confirm the SMSFs they audited in the last 12 months.
Doing this helps the ATO verify funds are being audited and identifies instances of auditor details being incorrectly or fraudulently reported on SMSF annual returns.
Therefore, we remind our clients to ensure you have received the signed audit report before lodging the annual return for each SMSF.
